A visit to the mountains of Switzerland with James Bond 007

Schilthorn is part of the Bernese Alps in Switzerland at 2,970 metre high summit. It overlooks the valley of Lauterbrunnen in the Bernese Oberland, and is the highest mountain in the range lying north of the Sefinenfurgge Pass. Schilthorn lies above the village of Mürren, from where a cable car leads to the summit.

The reason we chose to check this mountain is a special one. But you probably already guessed the reason why from the title of this post. There is a panoramic revolving restaurant, named Piz Gloria, at the summit, which is where the 1969 James Bond movie 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' was set. This restaurant is the world's first revolving mountaintop restaurant ever built.

So we definitely wanted to check that out! We took the cable car from stechelberg which is a small village in the glacier of the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland, sitting at the base of the Jungfrau mountain. The village is surrounded by steep mountains, cliffs, and waterfalls, as you can see in the pictures. And from there the cable car took us to the top, but stopping at two other stops before reaching to the summit. The cable cars are pretty big and all along the route to the top you get nice views of the Swiss alps. Below, you can see what the cable car ride looks like.

The views we get from the summit are of majestic mountain peaks on the Swiss skyline with Eiger, Munch and Jungfrau and 200 other summits. We finally made it to the top, and WOW, as usual the alps look amazing!!

We first checked out the interactive exhibition at the summit. Basically the exhibition helps understand the background of the James Bond movie, there are screens everywhere showing scenes of the movie. There is also an in-house cinema showing clips of the movie, with fascinating insights and views of the Alpine world surrounding the Schilthorn.

And yes...we got to play...hehe..They give you even James Bond face to play with! Don't miss out!

And then we went to check out the alps!

And you get to take pictures with James Bond made paper...

And the 007 Walk of fame on the Schilthorn

Of course, if the clouds weren't there, the views would have been even more amazing. Check the video below to feel what is at the summit.

Then, we finally made it to the restaurant. This restaurant revolves a full 360 degrees in 55 minutes, which we didn't get in full, since we stayed there about half hour. The restaurant has a pretty nice atmosphere, perfect for those hikers that reach the restaurant all tied from their hike. We both ordered the 007-burger and it was a never ending burger, but delicious! If you are hungry, then I highly recommend this burger!

I would highly recommend this mountain tour, specially if you are a James Bond fan like us. The tickets for the cable lift are a bit pricey, considering we are visiting a place in Switzerland, but to us, when ever there are mountains involved, we usually don't bother checking the price. It was a lot of fun and we got to learn a thing or two about the movie, which I previously never saw but did watch it after the visit to the mountain.

Did you guys ever visit Schilthorn Let us know we would love hear about your experience!
